Another great KA-DER/Eyecatcher event ! I am not sure where to start in thanking you for bringing
such a great team to run the second KA-DER workshop. Peter Hunt, the Consul General is still
talking about the impressive feedback participants gave him on Sunday evening. As he said
to me this morning this was an event that really reached its target, and looks like it will
have a measurable effect on the development of women’s participation in political life in Turkey.
I know that KA-DER value your support and enthusiasm very highly. Thank you
again for all your efforts.

You must really be proud of your seminar in Turkey because we have already started to
have concrete results.
The last week of May, CHP (The Republican Peoples Party-social democrat) had its Kurultay
(Congress) that is held every other year, KA.DER was present there. We applied most of the
campaigning techniques that you have dealt with at Sile. KA.DER’s presence and activity was
noted very positively in the press and the leader of the party made an official promise to
change the party regulations concerning women’s participation.
But what was even more impressive was the fact that 5 women who are KA.DER members were
elected to the Party Assembly, the highest decision making body between the congresses.
CHP applies a 25% quota at that level and altogether 15 women were elected. Even more
striking was the fact that among these 5 KA.DER members, 2 had attended your seminar at
Sile and very successfully used what they have learned. One was Senay (from Bursa).
She lobbied so well that she succeeded to get into the list supported by the leader of
the party. The other, Nazmiye (from Ankara) was a candidate in the opposition list.
Only 7 persons from the opposition succeeded to be elected to the 60 member Party
Assembly and one of them was Nazmiye. I myself was not at this meeting, but all
of our members who participated and did lobbying for women candidates say
unanimously that her campaign was extremely brilliant. Just one example:
she produced a paper fan, on which her name and program was written and distributed
it to all the delegates. Thank you very much on their behalf.
