Congratulations to women candidates in Cyprus
Congratulations to Maria Kyriacou and other women candidates in Cyprus:
"I thought you would be interested to hear the results of our recent
parliamentary elections which were quite successful as far as women's
participation is concerned. We had 72 women candidates, six of whom were
elected - double the number we had in the previous parliament. Some of the
candidates and one or two of the elected ones participated in your training
programmes. I have just been talking to one of the new MPs, Maria Kyriacou,
whom I am sure you remember (as she has been on your courses) and who keeps
repeating that the British Council
encouraged her to enter politics. Androula Vassiliou is the only woman who
was re-elected.

Widows' Rights Bill Passed in Nigeria
Congratulations to Dr Eleanor Nwadinobi and everyone else who worked so hard
to establish rights for widows in Nigeria:
